  • Plain parsley has broad, flat leaves that range from dark to light green. It has a bold, aromatic fragrance that is stronger than curly parsley. Plain parsley is often used as a seasoning or garnish. It can be used in sauces, meat dishes, and baked. Plain parsley is preferred in cooking compared to curly parsley as a garnish. Plain parsley is available year-round.

  • The stem is light green and moist with no signs of decay.
Storage
  • Plain parsley should be stored at 32°F (0°C) with a relative humidity of ninety-five to a hundred percent and with mist.
  • The typical shelf life is one to two months.
  • Plain parsley is very sensitive to ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that regulates ripening. Plain parsley should not be stored with high ethylene-producing products to extend shelf life and delay yellowing. Plain parsley produces very little ethylene. 
  • Plain parsley is not sensitive to chilling injury and should be stored as cold as possible without freezing. The freezing point for plain parsley is 30°F (-1.1°C) and should be avoided.
