Emergency Food Distribution
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
-Helen Keller
Sixth Street Community Center is founded in 1978 devoted to "advancing social, environmental, housing, economic and racial justice in the East Village and Lower East Side community." In response to the COVID - 19 pandemic, Sixth Street Community Center started the weekly Emergency Food Distribution program to combat food insecurity arising in the community. Since April 2020, they have served over 20,000 families in total.
Thanks to the introduction of our friend at Henry Street Settlement/Abrons Arts Center; we met the lovely program director, Jen. Jen let us know the need for Asian vegetables due to the fact that "95% of the families that they serve are low-income Chinese immigrants, elders, and Chinese-Americans." This is definitely something that we are proud to support and within our capability. Purvey'd is a wholesale vegetable supplier started in the outskirts of Chinatown/Lower East Side. We have been in business for thirty-plus years and are confident that we can leverage our relationships with farms and other wholesalers to provide Sixth Street Community Center with great produce deals in order to stretch the dollars and help the community the best we can! Purvey'd is honored to support the Sixth Street Community Center through bi-weekly discounted produce and produce donations for the Emergency Food Distribution program.
