  • Young coconuts are mostly sourced from Vietnam and Thailand.
  • Young coconut has a white husk under its green outer skin. It is usually trimmed and shaped by removing the green outer skin. The final product has a flat bottom, a round body, and a pyramid top. Young coconut is about four inches in diameter and weighs about five hundred grams. The flesh is white and soft, almost gelatinous that doesn’t taste like anything. Young coconut contains delicious and nutritious coconut water. Young coconut is available year-round.

Storage
  • The young coconut should be stored at 37ºF - 43ºF (3ºC - 6ºC) with a relative humidity of ninety to ninety-five percent with no mist.
  • The typical shelf life is three to four weeks for dehusked young coconuts. Young coconut that has not been dehusked has a longer shelf life than dehusked young coconut.
  • Young coconut is not sensitive to ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that regulates ripening. Young coconut produces a low level of ethylene.
  • Young coconut is sensitive to chilling injury. The green skin of the young coconut turns brown after seven days of storage at 32°F (0°C). The freezing point for young coconut is 27°F (-3°C).
