  • White turnip is firm and heavy for its size.
  • No signs of blemish or soft spots. 
Storage
  • White turnip should be stored at 32°F (0°C) with a relative humidity of ninety to ninety-five percent and with mist.
  • The typical shelf life is four to five months. High humidity is important to avoid wilting, shriveling, and loss of color.
  • White turnip is sensitive to ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that regulates ripening. Do not store white turnip with high ethylene-producing products to extend shelf life and avoid leaf yellowing. White turnip produces a very low level of ethylene.
  • White turnip is not sensitive to chilling injury and should be stored as cold as possible without freezing. The freezing point for white turnip is 30°F (-1°C) should be avoided. White turnip is susceptible to freezing injury which results in water-soaked spots and brown discoloration of flesh.
